Opera for the Young

Last Thursday Opera for the Young came to Hemlock Creek thanks to the PTO. It was a great show!

Opera for the Young’s adaptation of The Elixir of Love moves the action to Lonesome Gulch, a town in the American Old West. Miss Addy, Jimmy Reno, and Bill Corey form the love triangle of the story, with Dr. Dulcamara appearing as the "snake oil" peddler who sells the love potion.
Students HC even got to perform with the cast  as the Justice of the Peace and the Soldier as well as the "Citizens of Lonesome Gulch".

Informational Writing - Research

This trimester in writing we are working on writing informational/teaching books. This week we are working on a book that is about an animal that we read about in our reading groups this week. We are using the book and a website called PebbleGo to do our research. The kids are then transferring their research into a book. So far they are doing great. By the end of next week we hope to have a completed piece.

Reach for the Stars

JOIN US APRIL 4-16 for Reach for the Stars

Reading is a Gift. A Fundraiser that is a Gift of a Lifetime!

Yesterday in Tuesday notes an orange paper came home about the Reach for the Stars. This is a pledge based book program. Students are encouraged to read and record their nightly reading on the reading log. They can also collect pledges from family, friends, and neighbors. Your child will then get to pick out books for half of the amount collected. The other half will allow Hemlock Creek to order books for our classroom and library. 100% of the pledges goes to books! Please let me know if you have any questions or if you have misplaced the forms.

Even if you choose not to participate in collecting pledges, please return your completed reading log. The class with the most logs returned wins a prize! The class with the most pledges will also win a prize!

Silent "MAGIC" E

In class this week we have been working on spelling words (and reading words) with silent or magic e. We were introduced in reading earlier in the year but we are now reviewing and adding the spelling part. Here are some video and games your kids have enjoyed at school. :)

Building for Kids

Here are some fun pictures from our field trip yesterday. :)

ALICE Training for Kids

Today during guidance Mrs. Johnson and Officer Angel talked with the kids about what to do at school if a "dangerous someone" was to enter our school. They learned to be Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter,  and Evacuate. The book did a good job teaching the kids what to do in a kid friendly manner. I have a copy of the book in my classroom if you want to borrow it to read at home. We will be doing a drill in the Spring.
