Learning to Email - Penguins and Unique Monique

Yesterday Ms. Zurawski our library media specialist came in to our classroom to do a literacy/email lesson. She read a book with the class about penguins. They then had to draw a picture on an iPad app called Hello Crayons! to show one thing that they learned from the book. After finishing their picture they learned to email their picture to me. Once I got all of the emails they each shared what they drew and what they learned with the class. We also then practiced what they learned by emailing another picture from earlier in the day. We watched a Reading Rainbow and heard the story Unique Monique and we focused on the main character. The kids drew a picture of the main character and labeled it. They also added one thing from the story that Monique did to make herself more unique. Below you will find the pictures from today! :)

This Week in Math: Shapes

This week in math we are working on shapes and their attributes. So far we have studied rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles. Today we explored with foam triangles. The kids used triangles to make other shapes like squares and rectangles. They also practiced working together to complete a task that they were given. It was loads of fun. Mega Math Game - Clock-A-Doodle-Doo

Today in math we started a new unit and we will be learning how to tell time. We are starting with telling time on a digital and analog clock to the hour. Alphabetical Order

Today we worked on dictionary skills and putting words into alphabetical order. The kids partnered up and got a bag of words. Their job was to put all the words into alphabetical order. There were even doubles of some letters and had to look to the second or third letters. They did a great job! After we finished we watched the book on tape Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. :)

Construction Has Started

There are many changes going on here at Hemlock Creek this Spring. As you already know we will be getting an addition onto our building this year due to our exciting district growth. There will be classrooms, a multi-purpose room (for lunch/gym), a music room, and an art room. Some changes that come along with these exciting changes are bus moves, parent pickup changes, new fences, and a new view from our classroom. If you have any questions please let me know.
