PBIS Video and Winners

Today we finally finished our classroom PBIS video. We had fun practicing good choices and taking all of the videos and pictures. The video will show how we can be respectful, responsible, and safe. I hope you enjoy!

Each week we also have a drawing for two classroom winners. This weeks winners were Ben and Kayla. They earned Phantom slips throughout the week and were the lucky kiddos to get their names drawn. They choose to pick a spirit stick from Mrs. Lambrecht's stash. Their other options were: a cone for their desk, the teacher's chair for a day, add a part to Mr. Potato Head, an extra brain break, or an extra Tumblebook.

PS: We also won the traveling trophy for walking quietly in the hallway.

Week 2: Daily 5 & Math Mountains

Two of the things we have been working on this week are the Daily 5 routines and number partners. The Daily 5 is our classroom literacy rotations/centers. So far we have learned Read to Self, Read to Someone, Book Shopping, and Listening to Reading. The pictures below are from Read to Someone yesterday.  As we build reading stamina in each area we will add more rotations.

In math this week we are working on number partners. Yesterday we worked on the partners of 2-5 and today and tomorrow we will be working on partners of 6. One strategy we are using to find number partners is the use of math mountains. Below you will find a video explaining math mountains as well as pics of the kids using their own math mountains and tiny tumblers for the number 6.

Reader's Theater Performance & Listening to Reading

Yesterday's readers's theater was a HUGE success. We had a great turn out and the kids did an awesome job! Below you will find some pictures from the event as well as a recording of each story. During our practice we recorded them so they could be used in our listening to reading box for the rest of the year. The kids will be able to hear their voices while looking at the pages in the book! To hear them for yourself simply click on the picture of the kids holding up their book. :) Enjoy!

Construction - Ground Breaking Ceremony

Today was the official ground breaking ceremony for the new Hemlock Creek Addition. To celebrate today we all got some yellow hard hats courtesy of Miron Construction. A school photo with all students  in their hats was taken in the gym. We also went out as a class to discuss the progress and snap a few photographs. The kids were excited to hear that their 2nd grade classes would be in the new hallway. It was a beautiful but windy day, so we really had to hold on to our hats!

Jazz Band

This week on Tuesday the middle school jazz band and drumline came to perform for us. They did an amazing job. Below are some pics and a video from the concert. It was especially exciting for me as there were some former students of mine playing. :)
