Outdoor Reading
Yesterday morning we had a fire drill. The kids did a great job and did exactly what they were supposed to do. When we came back inside they could not get the flashing fire alarm lights of so we decided to take the Daily Five outside. We did read to self and read to someone on the playground. As soon as we returned inside the lights were off and we resumed class as normal. The kids like learning outside and even got to play a little.

This weeks Jordy Nelson Walking Club Winner (and the Golden Spatula too) !!!!
This week our class earned the honor of having Jordy Nelson in our classroom. He is joining us because we had the most kiddos participate in the walking club last week. To do the walking club all your child has to do is bring his or her card to the playground in the afternoon and walk around the playground two times. When they get 20 punches they earn a walking club spirit stick. This activity is sponsored by Fuel Up to Play 60 a program that focuses on getting kids moving and playing for 60 minutes everyday! Below are pictures of the kiddos who have participated in the walking club so far this year.
We also won the Golden Spatula again this week and Jordy held onto it for us. :)

Writing Partners
Today during writer's workshop the kiddos got to work with their new writing partners. They practiced coming up with new ideas, story telling, and revising. They did an awesome job practicing and we plan to work in partners at least once a week during writer's workshop.

Math Story Problems
Today in math we practiced solving math story problems using equations and circle drawings. The kiddos each used their white boards to write their equations and solve them. We also practiced two different ways to write our equations. For example: 2 + 4 = 6 and 6 = 2 + 4

Daily Five Update
Our daily five time is going great! The kids do a fantastic job making choices and working the whole time. We have added the use of an iPhone for QR codes, iPads, computer games, book shopping, and word work.
