We "Mustache" Questions While We Read

Today during reading we focused on asking questions while we read. We discussed asking questions before, during, and after reading. To help up with questioning I read the story titled Mustache by Mac Barnett. I pre-read the story and loaded it up with my own questions on stick notes. As I read I asked my questions and we discussed possible answers. We talked about how asking questions while we read will help us have a better understanding of the story. We made a poster of possible question starters and then each kiddo wrote their question on a mustache. They LOVED it! Here are some pictures and sample questions from the book. I also linked a YouTube reading of the book if you want to read it too! :) Enjoy!

Who is the author and who is the illustrator?
What made the king such a terribly king?

I wonder why they didn't move?
Why did the townspeople go silent?

Will the king ever fix the town?
What does culprit mean?

Why did he royal advisor have to wear a disguise?
Why did they all draw mustaches on the posters?

How did the king feel at the beginning and at the end?
How did the king change?
Why did he give himself a mustache?

Mrs. L and our visitor Ms. Meyers
What was the setting?
What was the author's purpose?

Exercise Breaks

During these cold weather days we are doing our best to stay active. We use a website called GoNoodle to get moving. Today we did one called Get Loose and one called Pop See Ko. The kids love the silly dancing. At the end of the day we did another one called Roller Coaster from our desks. This is a great way to wait inside for the buses. Below is a video of Pop See Ko and Roller Coaster! :)

Happy New Year!

On Monday in the library and in class we read books about the new year and new year's resolutions. We then wrote our own resolution to make ourselves better or to help others. We also listened to some fun songs while we worked. The kids loved one song a lot so I linked to it below! We hope you have a Happy New Year!!

Human Body

The past few weeks we have been learning about the human body. As we
have learned about the different body systems we have colored part of
them and glued them onto each kiddos traced body. So far we have done
the muscular system, skeletal system, respiratory system, and
digestive systems. Next week we will finish up with the final system,
the nervous system. The kids really seem to enjoy it!
