Verbs

Today in reading we reviewed what action verbs are. We then used the Seesaw app to record verb videos. Many were published today and the rest will be done tomorrow. We had some technical issues and need to redo a few. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

This week in class we did many activities to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We did many Thanksgiving or Turkey related math games/activities, read Thanksgiving books, watch a lesson about Thanksgiving on BrainPop, made thankful turkey books, and even got to have a special turkey snack (thank you Ella)! Below are some pictures of our exciting week. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!!

Mrs. Karl - Oneida Presentation

This morning Mrs. Karl came in to discuss and teach our class (with Mrs. LaPierre's class) about the Oneida Nation traditions, customs, and history. This lesson tied in perfectly with our past and present unit for the 1st trimester. Below are some pictures from the presentation. :)

Thanksgiving Turkey Directed Drawing

Yesterday during reading, we read the book The Amazing Turkey Rescue. Following the book the kiddos watch a Youtube video on how to draw a turkey. They had to follow the directions step by step to create their cartoon turkeys. They turned out great! Below are some pictures as well as a link to the video we watched. Happy Thanksgiving!

Next trimester they will be writing opinion papers and the celebration will be to share with their book buddies. Third trimester they will be writing informational texts that they will be able to share in another special way. Below are some pictures of them sharing. If you missed their writing yesterday check it out today! :)

Introducing Seesaw!!!

Today our class was introduced to an iPad app and website called Seesaw. This app allows students to collect their digital work in one spot. It also allows parents access to work that their child is doing at school. Work done during Daily 5 rotations, math centers, reading lessons, and much more can be uploaded by your child. A note giving you and your child access from home is in their take home folder today. Don't miss it!

To introduce the kids to Seesaw Mrs. Gossen (Library Media Specialist) and I worked together to teach a lesson. The lesson started with a read aloud of the book If I had a Robot by Dan Yaccarino. They then had to respond to the story using an app called Hello Crayon. Their assignment was to then draw a picture showing what they would make a robot do for them. They saved the image to the iPad's camera roll and learned how to upload it to Seesaw, adding a sentence to explain their drawing.

PLEASE check out our Seesaw page ASAP! :)

Science - Human Body

Image result for me and my amazing body bookOur final science unit for the 1st trimester focuses on the human body. To kick off this unit we read the book Me and My Amazing Body. Our book buddies then joined us to trace our bodies onto paper. As we learn each body system we will glue parts and labels onto the body. This is always a favorite of the kids and many of their book buddies remember doing this when they were in 1st grade. When the body is complete your child will bring it home. :)

Introduction to Math Groups

This week we spent Monday and Tuesday's math time practicing for small group math. Starting Thursday we will be doing most math lessons in small groups. This will allow me to really focus on what each group needs and it will give me a much better idea of how each individual student is understanding a new concept. While I am working with a group the rest of the kids will be engaged in authentic math activities related to what we are learning or have learned in the past . These activities include games, projects, fact practice, iPads, Chromebooks and more. Below are some pictures of our practice from yesterday and today.
