Friday Fun!

Sounds of Christmas

At the end of the day yesterday the kiddos learned how to draw Santa. This morning they then colored him and added words of sounds you might hear at Christmas time. This ties into our new science on sound (and light).

 Santa Read Aloud

Santa came to read to the kids today. He read Santa is Coming to Green Bay.

 Movie Popcorn and Hot Chocolate

Today the kids earned a PBIS reward of a movie, PJs, and popcorn. Kloe and her mom also brought in hot chocolate for the kids new mugs!

STEM Project: Santa's Parachute

Yesterday we read the book Santa Claus the World's Number One Toy Expert and followed up with a STEM experiment. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. For this activity the kids had to design and build a parachute to help Santa safely land on the ground. They could use a variety of materials including cups, coffee filters, tissue paper, table cloth, string, tape, and more. They then had to experiment with their parachutes and make any necessary changes. Once successful they had to make their parachute even better. They had a blast! Here are some pictures and videos.

Seesaw - Seasons Greetings

Today we used the iPads, from the iPad cart, to learn how to save pictures from the internet. The kids Googled Christmas or Winter pictures and saved them. They then opened their picture on Seesaw, recorded a seasonal greeting, and uploaded it. Please take sometime to listen to them and send a reply message! :)

Holiday Concert

On Monday we had our holiday concert here at school. The kids did great. If you couldn't make it here are some pictures and video clips of the kids singing their four songs.

I recorded song #1 again with louder background music.

Hour of Code

This morning in class we participated in Hour of Code week. This week schools are challenged to engage all students in at least one hour of computer coding activities. We accomplished this goal by using the iPad cart from the library and an app called Kodable. The kids worked to get a puff ball through mazes, collecting coins along the way. They had to think multiple steps ahead to reach their goal. We discussed persevering through challenges and how getting good at something takes practice. I helped them through the first few levels but then left it up to them to find and fix their own mistakes. They got frustrated at times but the reward of solving a puzzle was worth the challenge. Below is a video and some pictures. :)
