Construction - Ground Breaking Ceremony

Today was the official ground breaking ceremony for the new Hemlock Creek Addition. To celebrate today we all got some yellow hard hats courtesy of Miron Construction. A school photo with all students  in their hats was taken in the gym. We also went out as a class to discuss the progress and snap a few photographs. The kids were excited to hear that their 2nd grade classes would be in the new hallway. It was a beautiful but windy day, so we really had to hold on to our hats!

Jazz Band

This week on Tuesday the middle school jazz band and drumline came to perform for us. They did an amazing job. Below are some pics and a video from the concert. It was especially exciting for me as there were some former students of mine playing. :)

3D Shapes

This week in class we worked with 3D shapes. The kids learned their names and their properties. They also got to explore with them and see which shapes can be combined and which cannot. They even got to make their own shapes and name them. Below you will see pictures of the kids and their shapes. I also added our shapes Youtube playlist.

Fundations Drill Sound Warm Up

Every morning we start our day doing our Phonics program called Fundations. To start each lesson we review the sounds that we have already learned. The routines remain largely the same from day to day. We do a combination of sounds on posters, small sound cards, large sound cards, and trick words. Yesterday, I recorded Maleigh leading the class. Below is a video so you can see what your kids do everyday!

Reading Group - Silly Sentences

Today one of our reading groups worked on building silly sentences
after finishing their book. They had a blast! :)

Learning to Email - Penguins and Unique Monique

Yesterday Ms. Zurawski our library media specialist came in to our classroom to do a literacy/email lesson. She read a book with the class about penguins. They then had to draw a picture on an iPad app called Hello Crayons! to show one thing that they learned from the book. After finishing their picture they learned to email their picture to me. Once I got all of the emails they each shared what they drew and what they learned with the class. We also then practiced what they learned by emailing another picture from earlier in the day. We watched a Reading Rainbow and heard the story Unique Monique and we focused on the main character. The kids drew a picture of the main character and labeled it. They also added one thing from the story that Monique did to make herself more unique. Below you will find the pictures from today! :)
