Alphabetical Order

Today we worked on dictionary skills and putting words into alphabetical order. The kids partnered up and got a bag of words. Their job was to put all the words into alphabetical order. There were even doubles of some letters and had to look to the second or third letters. They did a great job! After we finished we watched the book on tape Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. :)

Construction Has Started

There are many changes going on here at Hemlock Creek this Spring. As you already know we will be getting an addition onto our building this year due to our exciting district growth. There will be classrooms, a multi-purpose room (for lunch/gym), a music room, and an art room. Some changes that come along with these exciting changes are bus moves, parent pickup changes, new fences, and a new view from our classroom. If you have any questions please let me know. We are very excited to see what happens next! Below are a couple pictures.

Randy Peterson - Artist in Residence

This week we have Randy Peterson visiting us at Hemlock Creek. The kids are working with him to write a song that will go onto a Hemlock Creek CD next week. This CD will have 17 songs with 2 or 3 songs from each grade level. Our class was paired up with Mrs. Hopkin's class and together they wrote a song called Loose Tooth. They did an excellent job helping write the song and coming up with the rhyming words. Below are some pictures from our experience. I will update this posting as we go. Below are links to the lyrics and a recording so you can practice at home. We will be recording on Wednesday of next week.

St. Baldrick's - After

Today Jocelyn and I both donated our hair at the St. Baldrick's Event at Hemlock Creek. It was a great morning and we are so happy our hair will go to help kids with cancer get wigs. We might even be on the Fox 11 new tonight. :)

There were also lots of other participants shaving their heads and donating. A special thank you to all of the stylists who came to help. Especially to KSera Salon who cut our hair today!

Update: Jocelyn and I both got some news time tonight on Fox 11. She wasn't as nervous as me! :) In case you missed it you can click the link below.

Splat the Cat

Today Splat the Cat came to visit us in our classroom. The kids were very excited to see him and got to give him a hug or high-five (or both). He really enjoyed messing up the girls hair. That silly cat! Before Splat came in Mrs. Zurawski read the kids the book Splat Says Thank You! She then let them know they will be sending the beautiful cards they made in art to anyone they choose thanking them for something they did or do. What a great start to the day!
