This week in P.E. the kids had their Jump Rope for Heart stations. They got to rotate through these stations and get their heart pumping. I stopped in for part of class on Thursday and had some fun myself! Here are some pics. :)

February Dental Health
On Thursday morning Dental Associates came in to talk to the first graders about their dental health. They discussed when and how to brush and floss. They also showed the kid a dental x-ray and the amounts of sugar in popular drinks. Below are some pictures and a video from the presentation. :)

Valentine's Day Emoji Fun!
Yesterday we had a great Valentine's Day! We had a fun filled emoji day. We started the days with some emoji coloring, bag decorating, and sticker valentines. We also played emoji bingo and did out valentine exchange. At the end of the day we also did some light and mirror challenges. The kids had to use flashlights and mirrors to hit a heart shaped target. 1st they used just the flashlight. Next, they used one mirror. Finally, they had to use two mirrors. It was a great day!

Light: Materials Investigation
Last week in science we are continued our investigations with light.
Day 1
We started by getting a bag full of supplies including a flashlight, mirror, tin foil, parchment paper, and Seran wrap. The kids placed each material in the path of the light and discussed what they observed. We then came to the carpet and discussed what they discovered.
Day 2
We combined our observations and made a chart with the different materials. The kids were introduced to the new vocabulary words transparent, translucent, opaque, and reflective.

Oneida Museum Visit
On Tuesday the first graders here at Hemlock Creek learned about the Oneida culture. We were lucky enough to have the Oneida museum come in to talk to the kids. They made mobiles for the 3 clans, make pinch pots, and learned about language and songs. The kids had a great time. This concluded our social studies unit on cultures.
