Light and Shadows - Groundhog's Day

In science the last couple weeks we have been studying and exploring with light. So far we have investigated that things can only be seen when light is available to illuminate them, sources of light, and that light travels in a straight line. In honor of Groundhog's Day yesterday we studied shadows. We make little groundhog puppets and placed them in front of a beam of light. We noticed that when the puppet is placed in front of light, the beam of light stopped and could not travel through or around the object. We also observed that a shadow was created behind the puppets. We related this to groundhog folklore.
